Raga: That Which Colors the Mind

Join us for a special performance in the Hindustani (North Indian) classical tradition! An evening “raga”—or melodic concept that encompasses a specific set of musical rules, emotions, and characteristics that define a unique musical mood and atmosphere—will be specifically chosen for the audience and announced. The performance will then unfold with four main parts: Alap, Jor, Jhala and Gat. Though there are countless composed compositions within a vast system of rules and guidelines in North Indian Classical Music, this entire performance will be improvised navigating the landscapes of Raga and Tala. This can only be done at the highest level through the mastery developed over the course of a lifetime.
