In collaboration with a few talented co‐workers, John Phillips has been building new harpsichords and restoring ancient ones in Berkeley (CA) since 1975. Mr. Phillips works from a small shop which produces four to six high quality instruments per year. He offer models based on French, Flemish, German, and Italian instruments. The basic decoration of his instruments follows the more modest historical examples, appropriate to each style. For the more elaborate stands and decoration, they rely on the talents of Janine Johnson, a long-time member of the shop.
Mr. Phillips’ shop also services and mends harpsichords and provides concert and recording rentals and tunings.
