Harmony out of Chaos
The Barbary Coast Recorder Orchestra (an outreach program of Voices of Music) will perform its 2018 program “Harmony out of Chaos” to jump start the Berkeley Festival with an impressive array of recorders ranging in size from the tiny sopranino to the resonant sub-contrabass. The program highlights the beauty that can arise out of discord with music from the 14th century to the present. Represented are four living composers: Sasha Manning, Roy Sansom, Tom Bickley, and Sir Karl Jenkins, in addition to greats of the past: Machaut, Vivaldi, Handel, and Verdelot. Featured at this performance will be an original work composed for BCRO by guest conductor Tom Bickley.
The ORCHESTRA: Frances Feldon and Greta Haug-Hryciw, directors/conductors; Tom Bickley, guest conductor; Orchestra Members from the East Bay, North Bay, South Bay, San Francisco, and Sacramento areas: Britt Ascher, David Benefiel, Rachel Bradley, Mary Carrigan, Anja Crickmore, Lydia Fredkin, Nancy C.
